ABOUT GEI
GEI stands for
“Gruppo Esponenti Italiani,” the Group of Italian Representatives. Founded
in 1974, the GEI is an association of representatives from the main Italian
business and financial concerns operating in the United States, and Italian
leaders in the professions, in industrial design and international affairs.

GEI aims to provide a forum for both Italian and American experts in
the fields of politics, society, business and finance to exchange ideas on the
Italian image from an American perspective.

Using funds donated by its members, the Group organizes seminars, round
table discussions and other events to promote Italy.
It makes financial contributions to various projects, including an Italian school in New York, and has engaged a public relations
agency to publish articles on Italian industry.

The Group’s most high-profile event, however, is the annual
presentation of the “GEI Award” to Italians and Americans for their
outstanding contribution to furthering relations between the two countries. An
average of 600 highly qualified guests from the worlds of economics, business,
finance and media attend the award ceremony. The speeches of the
honorees and audience’s response receive extensive media coverage in the
United States and Italy, thereby making the event another venue for promoting
the image of Italy.

The GEI Award is a small limited-series sculpture by
Arnaldo Pomodoro.

A special GEI Award was presented to the President of Italy, the late Sandro
Pertini, on the occasion of his visit to the United States.

The Group also hosts working luncheons with local and visiting
personalities to focus on relations between Italy and the United States. Guests-of-honor have included the American ambassadors to
Italy and the Italian ambassadors to the United States, the Presidents of
various Italian regions, Senators, Governors, Mayors, chairpersons of leading companies and
financial institutions, renowned journalists, educators and representatives of the
cultural world, as well as numerous Italian government and Parliament members
during their visits to the United States.

Il
GEI, formatosi nel 1974, e’ un’associazione senza fini di lucro, di cui
fanno parte i rappresentanti delle maggiori aziende, organizzazioni e
istituzioni italiane attive negli Stati Uniti che hanno ritenuto opportuno
riunirsi, a titolo personale, nel Gruppo per svolgere ogni attivita’ che possa
servire al miglioramento dell’immagine dell’Italia negli Stati Uniti.

Il GEI intende offrire un foro ad autorevoli e qualificate voci italiane
ed americane nei campi dell’attivita’ politica, sociale, imprenditoriale,
finanziaria, commerciale e dell’informazione che abbiano interesse a discutere
i rapporti fra l’Italia e gli Stati Uniti.

Raccogliendo fondi fra i propri iscritti, il Gruppo ha organizzato varie
iniziative, aventi come scopo quello di far meglio conoscere l’Italia ed ha
contribuito finanziariamente a vari progetti.

Il Gruppo, che non svolge attivita’ politica, ha inoltre promosso,
contribuendovi finanziariamente, la creazione di una scuola italiana a New York
ed ha utilizzato un’agenzia di P.R. per far pubblicare articoli su alcuni dei
settori produttivi italiani.

Il progetto piu’ importante e di particolare rilievo che impegna tutto
il Gruppo e’ tuttavia costituito dalla creazione del “GEI Award” che viene
periodicamente conferito a personalita’ italiane ed americane che si sono
particolarmente distinte nel miglioramento dei rapporti tra i due
Paesi.

L’avvenimento, al quale partecipano in media 600 qualificati ospiti in
rappresentanza del mondo economico, commerciale, finanziario e
dell’informazione, serve al miglioramento dell’immagine dell’Italia sia
tramite l’incontro, i discorsi e lo scambio di idee che vi e’ fra i presenti
che tramite la copertura giornalistica, radio e televisiva che l’avvenimento
produce sia negli Stati Uniti che in Italia.

I “GEI Awards,” consistenti in una speciale scultura opportunamente
creata in serie limitata da Arnaldo Pomodoro, sono stati fino ad ora assegnati a
